12 - Day 246

Annie's mood continues to be poor.  She's clearly uncomfortable and irritable.  Appetite is good, however.  Her feed has been increased as she was starting to lose condition.

February
Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday

1 - Day 266

Foal is very deep and Annie is quite uncomfortable.  She tires easily.  We've increased her feed again as she's getting a bit "ribby" again.
2 - Day 267

Annie's foal is very deep, as this photo shows.  Annie spends a great deal of time napping...she has very little energy for anything except eating.
3 - Day 268

4 - Day 269

Annie is really shedding .  Our mares all shed during the last months of pregnancy.

23 - Day 289

Annie's udder has started filling.  Was able to milk out fluid this evening.  It's clear and salty (good since that indicates she isn't real close), plentiful (not good since she's so far out).
24 - Day 290

25 - Day 291

26 - Day 292

27 - Day 293

Annie's mood is good, despite her large size.  She spends a lot of time sleeping.  Her weight is slipping again...we're increasing her feed.  She's already eating more than any of the other  mares.
 28 -Day 294

March
Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday

1 - Day 295

Annie continues to spend a great deal of her time sleeping.  Her mood is good.  Udder is developing.
2 - Day 296

3 - Day 297

4 - Day 298

5 - Day 299

6 - Day 300

Udder is growing daily now, and Annie is starting to "loosen" by her tail.
7 - Day 301

8 - Day 302

9 - Day 303

10 - Day 304

Quite a bit of udder for this point in the pregnancy.

11 - Day 305

12 - Day 306

13 - Day 307

14 - Day 308

15 - Day 309

Annie is acting very odd...we're concerned.  Tested milk, calcium is under 50 PPM, still clear, slightly salty but becoming sweet.  Foal has been very active today and Annie is clearly uncomfortable.
16 - Day 310

Milk is now down into the teats, as the photo shows.  Surprisingly, it's more difficult to milk her this evening.  Milk is cloudy, still slightly salty.   Annie has started "butt pushing" (trying to move the sides of the barn out a foot or two!)
17 - Day 311

Milk is pale yellow, becoming cloudy.  Most of the saltiness has left.  Calcium level is under 50 PPM.  Udder is so full that it's very hard to milk & Annie is tender.  Annie is still eating well, but is really slowed down by her large size.
18 - Day 312

It's hard to imagine Annie being able to grow any more!  Her udder is full, tight and very warm.  Milk is pale yellow, clear but becoming cloudy.  Still slightly salty.  Appetite is good...mood is good, although she has very little energy.
19 - Day 313

Milk tests under 50 PPM calcium.  It's becoming more cloudy, but still pale yellow.  Slightly salty.  Appetite is still good, mood good.  She's dropped off quite a bit in the hindquarters.  Started showing signs of pressure.
20  - Day 314

Milk tests under 50 PPM calcium.  Annie's mood is odd, she's more restless than she's been.  Udder is very full.  Milk is yellow, slightly cloudy but not changing a lot.  Annie looks like she's getting close, but we'd like a few more weeks.
21 - Day 315

No substantial change.  Udder continues very full and tight, but milk is only slightly cloudy.  Her hindquarters have dropped off, but she's not really sagging under the tail yet.

22 - Day 316

Udder extremely full and hard, but milk is only slightly cloudy.  Her hindquarters have dropped off, starting to sag under the tail.  Appetite still good.  Mood is good, although she is really slowed down and tires easily.

23 - Day 317

Udder is VERY  full and tight.  Milk is till slightly salty and pale yellow.  Annie is still eating well, although she doesn't have energy for much else.

24 - Day 318

25 - Day 319

26 - Day 320

27 - Day 321

Udder is so full it seems like it will POP!  Her teats are full and distended.  Milk is still clear, salty, tests under 50 PPM Calcium.

28 - Day 322

29 - Day 323

Annie is now showing edema...fluid collecting on the bottom of her abdomen.  She isn't moving around very well today.  Udder is huge, but calcium is under 50 PPM.  Mucus discharge this morning.
30 - Day 324

Calcium under 50 PPM.  Annie is moving very slowly, doing much butt-pushing and generally acting like a VERY pregnant mare.  Udder very full and tight.  Milk is still clear, but is getting cloudier..
31 - Day 325

Calcium under 50 PPM.  Milk is still clear, but is cloudier and has white particles in it. Appetite not as good as it's been.  Udder is very full, tight and warm.

April
Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday
1 - Day 326

Calcium under 50 PPM, but close.  Lots of signs of pressure...Annie is getting close now.

2 - Day 327

Calcium at about 50 PPM.  Milk is getting sticky, still translucent, but becoming whiter.  Annie's udder actually seemed to shrink some today...first time in weeks...perhaps she's been dripping milk..

3 - Day 328

Calcium at about 65 PPM.  Milk isn't foal ready, but is whiter each day.  Annie isn't getting around very well and her appetite has dropped off.  She's not comfortable.

4 - Day 329

Calcium at about 80 PPM.  Milk is thicker, but still not opaque.  Sweet, tastes like milk.  Appetite is back...something we typically see close to foaling.  Belly has changed shape some.  We're likely in the last week.

5 - Day 330

No change in calcium...looks like we're in a holding pattern.

6 - Day 331

8:30 PM Update:   Milk is  still not opaque, but very thick and sticky. No change to calcium levels.   Annie is very restless, tail swishing and roaming in her stall.  She has a mucus discharge (again).   Based on calcium...she's not foaling tonight.  It won't be much longer, though.
7 - Day 332

8:30 PM Update:   Milk  not completely opaque, but very thick and sticky. Calcium continues about 100.    She's holding her tail up much of the time and she's so sunken next to her tail that it makes the tail look like it's sticking out.  Udder very full and warm.  She appears to be in the last days.
8 - Day 333

8:30 PM Update:   Calcium at about 125, moving up much slower than last year.  Other than the calcium levels, there are no signs we expect to see:  everything looks ready.  It's the usual  wait for "nose at both ends"

9 - Day 334

8:30 PM Update:   Calcium at about 200, milk very thick, yellow and sticky.  Nearly opaque, but not as white as she usually does before foaling.  Belly has changed shape.  Very restless, lots of pressure.  Annie's calcium usually gets to 500 before foaling.

10 - Day 335

8:50 PM Update:   Calcium reached 500 this afternoon. Milk white and thick. Completely opaque, ready to foal.  Dripping milk & waxed.  Annie is restless, with tail-up (see photo).   There has been quite a bit of foal activity this evening.  We expect Annie to foal before tomorrow.
11 - Day 336

It's a Colt! Click to visit his page!

Check out the height and build on this boy!  Now we know why Annie looked the way she did.  No problem delivering him, despite his size.
