Not a lot of change today. Her mood is
still irritable. Must not have been wax since there is no sign today. She still won't allow
her udder to be touched. |
2 - Day 315
Rolling a lot today. Spent
the afternoon flirting with the stallion in the next paddock. Udder
is so full that the teats are starting to recess.

3 - Day

Not a lot of change
today. She's no longer rolling, but is off
her feed. Udder is still very full and warm.
She's not flirting much with the stallion today, mostly just stood around. Still won't allow
her teats to be touched. |
4 - Day

Rolling a great deal again today,
still off her feed. Udder is still very full and warm. She's
developed some edema (fluid) swelling on her belly. Foal is very
deep. Cinchy's croup is dropping off and is very soft &
jello-like. |
5 - Day

Cinchy's udder changed today for
the first time in many days. It's filling more, in front of the
teat. Her mood is odd, she spends a lot of time head hung down close
to the ground, weaving back and forth.

Cinchy's udder filled a lot this
afternoon. She is sagging quite a bit this evening. She's
acting like a mare getting ready to foal - pacing and then standing
quietly in a corner. Could be tonight! (or
not.....!)

Not much udder change today.
Her back end has flattened to the point where her tail is sunken.
Unusual behavior this afternoon - dug a hole in the paddock! She
looks and acts ready...it's just a waiting game
now.

Very little change
today. She's sagging a bit more under the tail. We managed (not
easily) to milk a bit from her and milk is still clear so she's got
a while to go (despite how she looks!) Last foal: her milk
was clear until the day before she foaled. |
9 - Day 322
Cinchy went "slab sided"
today - the foal must have moved into position. At evening feed her
milk is still clear, but getting sticky. Her behavior has been very
odd: she's carrying her tail up much of the time, weaving and
rocking. |

10 - Day 323
Very little change today. Her behavior isn't as
odd as it was yesterday, although she did charge horses in the adjoining
paddock..She's still rolling when turned out. Udder hasn't changed
notably. Waiting game....

11 - Day 324
Cinchy is standing funny -
with her pelvis tipped and her hind legs apart. Not much change today,
although her udder seems to be changing this evening. Milk is still
clear, although it is much easier to milk her now.

12 - Day 325
Not much change today.
Cinchy's behavior is normal and her appetite is good. Udder may be
filling some behind the
teats.

13 - Day 326
Cinchy's teats are starting
to fill now. She's acting a bit odd, very quiet and away from the
adjoining paddocks. It's easier to milk her now. Milk is
still clear.

14 - Day 327
Cinchy spent a quiet
day. Not much udder change. She's now very loose under the
tail. Her tail offers no resistance when picked straight up.
Her muscles have softened around the tail head to the point where you can
see hollows next to it.

15 - Day 328
Cinchy is changing
fast today. Her udder was fuller and tighter this morning.
She's lost tone and is clearly in the home stretch. Her milk is
still clear, but is much easier to milk and much more plentiful.

16 - Day 329
Cinchy is showing signs of
having contractions and pressure. It appears to be "pre-labor"
as it is not changing in intensity. She had a mucus discharge this
morning. Milk is still clear, although the udder is so full it is
hard to milk. Soon...

17 - Day 330
Cinchy is still showing
signs of having contractions and pressure. She arches her neck and
rocks back and forth, clearly uncomfortable. Her milk is
now cloudy, but not yet white. Her udder is very full, coming up
high between her hind legs. There is milk in her teats, but no
sign of wax. Soon...

18 - Day 331
Cinchy's milk has turned
white. She is acting like she is soon to be in labor. She is
leaking some fluid...some concern over this. Teats are full of milk,
udder is full and heavy. Except for wax, there are no signs left for
Cinchy to show. Likely to be tonight....

19 - Day 332
Cinchy's milk is white,
cannot be seen through. She's starting to wax this evening.
She's been restless off and on this afternoon - practicing a lot of "butt
pushing" (trying to move the walls of the barn!) She's shown every
classic sign of foaling except for the most reliable:
"Nose at both ends!"

20 - Day 333
PM Update: No foal
yet! Cinchy's milk is white, sticky
and thick. She's restless and head weaving this evening. She's holding
her tail up in the air and clearly wants to
be left alone. Perhaps tonight...(or not!)

21 - Day 334
Cinchy has been restless this
afternoon, working up a slight sweat. She's biting her sides,
kicking at her belly. All good signs that she's getting ready.
She still has a small amount of wax, but I suspect she'll stream milk
soon because she's so full. Perhaps tonight...(or not!)

22 - Day 335
Cinchy continues
to be restless. She's biting her sides, kicking at her
belly. She has waxed more. She looks and acts like a
mare close...but who knows how long "close" means to a
mare!

23 - Day 336
The foal has moved into
position and this picture shows it well. Her
belly is much less pendulous now (ignoring the swelling right on the
bottom which is edema).
She has been having a lot of pressure and
is passing urine very frequently. Rocks and squats to
relieve the pressure. We're shocked that she didn't foal last
night.

24 - Day 337
Very little change today. Udder very full, still
waxed. Cinchy was in
a bad mood this morning, but recovered after breakfast
and spent an uneventful day. We'll see what tonight
brings. Last foal came about 9:30 in the evening. A
pattern?

Very little change again
today. Just waiting...waiting..waiting
